I created the print, above, for the volunteers at the National Museum Of Nuclear Science And History. The aircraft is an F-105D-20RE which originally began service at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany in 1962. The NMNC volunteers beautifully restored the plane cosmetically and applied its markings as it appeared when it was first delivered to the 49th Tactical Fighter Wing.
All of the USAF squadrons which flew the F-105D are represented in this print by their squadron patches. The aircraft doesn’t represent any particular plane flown by any particular squadron. It’s simply representative of the type that was used during the Vietnam War.
